Honoured guests,

Back in the year of 1969, the caricaturist Jose Bernardo Pacheco – Nando from Salvador delivered a message of peace, solidarity and humanity through the symbolic gesture of releasing a white dove, therewith opening the First World Cartoon Gallery  in Skopje, the city of world solidarity. We were certain that this message would reach all the people in the world. And it did. Fortunately, the caricaturists were the first to support our message, in their belief that optimism could change the world.

Within the past 35 years, with its universal themes and cosmopolitan significance, counting over 30 000 caricatures and more than 1000 authors from around the globe, the mosaic of the World Cartoon Gallery has taken part in the creation of the history of contemporary world caricature, as one of the oldest events of the kind in the world.

This year, the organiser of the World Carotoon Gallery is the Museum of the City of Skopje and is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia. The exhibition of the works will be held in the Hall of the World Cartoon Gallery in the Museum of the City of Skopje.

We appreciate your contribution to the rise and development of the Gallery, and we hope that with your new works you will continue supporting us in the manner of the other caricaturists around the globe.

With respect,

36th World Cartoon Gallery
